Education Abroad

Promoting Education Abroad

We need your help. As you may know, many students don't know that they can participate in education abroad, don't think they can do it with their major, or assume it's too expensive for them. If we help students get the facts about studying abroad, they may discover that they can study abroad.

  • Invite Education Abroad to your Class

Our Student Outreach Team is trained to give 30 minute presentations on the basics of Education Abroad (academics, accommodation options, program types, financial resources, locations, etc.) as well as share stories from their own recent Education Abroad experiences. The presentation requires powerpoint and internet access.

  • Integrate Education Abroad into the curriculum of your classes

Are you talking about international subject matter in the classes you teach? Remind students that they can get a first-hand glimpse at these subjects on their own.

  • Share your own experiences

Sometimes the idea of leaving Penn State for a semester seems scary or intimidating to students, many of whom are away from a tight-knit family or community for the first time in their lives. Tell your own story, and make yourself accessible for students to ask questions.

  • Learn how study abroad works in your department

With appropriate planning, students from any major can study abroad. Learn about the programs available and those that offer courses in the majors for your department. Remember: students often save general education requirements to take during their time abroad. Talk to your department head and/or College representative, and learn how students in your department have worked courses abroad into their course audit.
